When to Visit Ko Pha-ngan

Ko Pha-ngan enjoys warm tropical weather year-round, averaging 27°C with high humidity. The dry season, December to February, is ideal for travel. March to August brings warmer weather, while September to November is the rainy season, with November seeing heavy rainfall.

Accommodation in Ko Pha-ngan

In Ko Pha-ngan, there are several recommended areas for accommodation. The most popular is Haad Rin Beach, located on the southern part of the island. This beach hosts the famous Full Moon Party and is considered the main area, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars nearby. Most visitors who want to experience the island during the Full Moon Party usually choose to stay in this area. However, the downside is that the island’s higher-end hotels are not located here, and the influx of tourists during the Full Moon week significantly drives up hotel prices, especially in this area.

We chose to stay at the Anantara Rasananda, located on Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach. It’s one of the most beautiful stretches of beach I’ve ever visited, with huge rocks and a wide-open turquoise sea. The hotel consists entirely of villas with private pools, covering a large portion of the beach. Despite its size, it offers a feeling of intimacy and space, with exceptional service and one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Thailand – and in general. The main advantages of the hotel are the stunning beach and the privacy. If you're looking to disconnect and simply enjoy the tranquility, this is the place for you. However, it is somewhat isolated, so if you're seeking nightlife, this may not be the ideal spot.

Right outside the hotel, there's a small street with restaurants, travel agencies, and massage spots. There are also a few small supermarkets and laundromats. It's a small area but pleasant for an evening stroll.

Top Activities in Ko Pha-ngan

Than Sadet Waterfall - Known for its lush jungle surroundings, Than Sadet Waterfall is a must-visit for nature lovers. The waterfall flows most intensely during the rainy season, creating picturesque pools where you can dip your feet. Bring good walking shoes for a short descent from the main road to the falls. Locals also consider it a spiritual spot, adding to its mystique.

Malibu Beach - With its soft white sands, clear turquoise waters, and shady palm trees, Malibu Beach feels like a slice of paradise. The beach is ideal for sunbathing or taking a relaxed swim. The water is shallow, which makes it great for families with young children, and there are often food vendors nearby serving local snacks and fresh coconut water.

Secret Beach (Haad Son) - This hidden gem is a favorite for those who seek a tranquil, less-crowded beach experience. Located near a laid-back beach bar and Koh Haram's snorkeling spot, it offers an idyllic setting with vibrant underwater life close to shore. You can rent snorkeling equipment on-site to explore the coral and colorful fish.

Koh Ma Island - This small island is connected to Mae Haad Beach by a sandbar that emerges at low tide, allowing you to walk across to the secluded island. Koh Ma is a prime spot for snorkeling, offering some of the clearest waters on the island and diverse marine life. The lack of permanent structures on the island makes it feel like an untouched haven, ideal for a peaceful day trip.

Haad Rin Beach - Known as the heart of Ko Pha-ngan’s nightlife, Haad Rin is famous for its monthly Full Moon Party, where thousands gather for an all-night beach party. Even outside of Full Moon week, the area has lively bars, fire shows, and a vibrant social scene. If you’re looking for a fun night out, this is the place to be.

Tip Many local agencies offer day tours covering all these points of interest, with transportation between each location. For a more relaxed experience, consider hiring a private driver to customize your schedule and avoid the crowds, allowing you to spend as much time as you like at each location.
